Snapdragon 8 Gen 4: Benchmark Leaks Reveal Major CPU and GPU Upgrades
The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has been generating buzz with impressive benchmark results, primarily highlighting its CPU performance. However, a notable upgrade may come from its new GPU, the Adreno 830, which has shown a reported improvement of 43% to 56%, according to one user on Weibo.
The Adreno 830 is expected to run at a clock speed of 1.15GHz. Previously, Ice Universe hinted that Qualcomm had been testing speeds as high as 1.25GHz. It's important to note that the 1.15GHz speed, along with the benchmark results, comes from a Qualcomm Reference Device (QRD). These devices typically use early versions of new chips that may not reach the same speeds as the final retail versions, leaving the possibility of achieving the 1.25GHz clock speed.
In terms of performance, GFX Bench's Aztec Ruins High test recorded a 125fps score for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. For comparison, the Adreno 750 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 96fps. Other notable results for the Adreno 830 include 166fps in 3DMark’s Wild Life offscreen test and 44fps in the Wild Life Extreme Unlimited test.
The first smartphones expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, followed by the OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13. There have also been benchmarks reported from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, though it's unclear if this generation will have higher-clocked "for Galaxy" chips.
Speaking of clock speeds, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has two prime CPU cores clocked at 4.2GHz, although variations ranging from 4.1GHz to 4.32GHz have been observed. The final clock speed remains uncertain. There was earlier speculation that Qualcomm might dual-source the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips, but recent information points to 3nm chips from TSMC’s foundry.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to launch next month, with the first smartphones, like the OnePlus 13, hitting the market in October, and Xiaomi’s
devices likely arriving even sooner.
